I was listening to a radio programme when a Caller made his contribution and ended by saying ‘Jack Bauer’ after he was asked his name. The Presenter laughed, and I guess he wasn’t the only one laughing. hoever the caller was, he must have been watching too many seasonal films. But, do you really blame him when that is what is in vogue right about now.
Way back, when we had ‘Maria de Los Angeles’, ‘No one but you’, ‘ The Rich also cry’, and a whole lot of Mexican soap opera, people just rush home after work, school, to catch the very next episode. But, right now at this jet age, all is at our finger tips. You could miss the current episode, but not to worry, you can catch up from DVDs on sale in shops.
You hardly come across someone that is not in one season or the other. At first, I had thought it was a ladies’ thang, but I was wrong. For as the ladies love ‘Desperate Housewives’ the guys love ‘24’, ‘Lost’. And sometimes you find both sexes loving both.
One of the reasons for this is simple; it can be controlled when you have a copy at home. Can you imagine how annoying it is when the scene is at its climax, and then the light goes off or the time runs out. Sometimes you are not even sure you will be chanced for the next episode’s time on air. So, when you are the one in charge of the play button, you can control the temple, nay, and the flow.
And you know the ‘follow-follow-Nigerian’ mentality where everybody wants to do what everybody is doing even if they don’t understand the reason why. Since they are talking about it in your office, classroom, lecture hall, you just want to belong and boom, the syndrome gets into you. And once you pop, you can’t stop. Another factor that could make u trapped in this syndrome is the fact that some of these sessions are made from movies we once loved or, still love. Terminator falls into this category.
On another note, most of these seasonal movies are educative, and teach the facts of life. Desperate housewives would tell you to what extent a wife, mother, would go to protect her home. And what men experience as well. You can’t help finding something to learn in all of these. Whatever you are doing, and no matter what you are watching, you are in one of these seasons:
Desperate Housewives
24
Lost
Grey’s Anatomy
4400
Prison Break
Rome
Alias
Until my last Breath
