When Money is not Enough at Home (Part II)

Featuring the story of Michael and Christy in our previous article, finance as identified by marriage experts is the # 1 course of marital conflict. The question is: when money is not enough at home, what can the couple do to avoid conflicts? Here are recommended to-dos:

Objectively observe the reasons for the financial challenge: Is someone lazy or extravagant and misappropriating fund? Is the challenge result of lack of good income? Do you have contrasting view about money? Moreover, understand that different personalities react differently, an introverted person is reserved while an extrovert could be more forceful. Knowing that no temperament is better than the other, but different, and understanding your differences would help even your finance.

      What You Can Do

  •  The man should know his role as the legal bread winner. Situations may arise where he is unable to do this effectively, he should be willing to accept help but never transfer this role to his wife.
  • The Proverbs 31 woman is a very useful model for the wife.
  • Go for counseling with a respected couple or knowledgeable pastor.
  • As a couple, create a budget and work with it.
  • Explore other legitimate ways of making money.
  • Both husband and wife should be flexible and be willing to adjust where necessary.
  • Develop positive attitude. Appreciate each others strength. Be hopeful and believe for the best.
  • Serve God. Be faithful to return your tithe. Be open to receive God’s direction. Being able to apply this Bible-based principle is a plus.
