5-year-old girl was raped by a herbalist

THE father of a five-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by a herbalist in Bauchi State, Mallam Hussaini Mohammed, has appealed for justice.

He told newsmen in Bauchi yesterday that around May last year, his daughter was defiled by the herbalist in Wuntin Dada area of Bauchi State. “I was with my neighbour when my wife called me on phone that something was missing in my house”.

Hussaini, a policeman, said, “When I got home, I saw my daughter with blood in her private part, she was crying.

I asked her what happened and she told me that Baba Sani (Mustapha) removed her pant and did something to her.” He said he reported the matter at the GRA police station and Mustapha was arrested. “He was pleading that we should settle but I refused.

“I told him to settle with the police. The case was transferred to the CID and he was detained.

“He was later released on bail and since then, we have not set eyes on him. The case has been dragging on in court since then with no sign that we would get justice.”

He said he was always being represented by his lawyer. The case has been transferred from a Chief Magistrate’s Court to a High Court in Bauchi.

“On the 26th of this month, we will be at the High Court and I hope Mustapha would be in court”, he said, expressing regret that somebody who could defile a

five year old girl was still being allowed to roam the streets. The police constable appealed to the authorities to ensure that justice was done, saying his daughter suffered physical and psychological damages.

“She couldn’t eat and for so many days she was bleeding through the nose. I feel very bad about what happened to my daughter because it affected her seriously”, he said. Efforts to get the accused did not succeed as he was said to have relocated.
