A 25-year-old man was yesterday remanded in prison custody on the orders of an Abuja chief magistrate for alleged shop breaking and theft, offences contrary to Sections 347 and 288 of the Penal Code.

Prosecutor Silas Nanpan told the court that one Edward lyokpat reported to the police that on September 28, he discovered that his shop was broken into though the ceiling and some things stolen.
He said N120, 000 was stolen and various recharge cards valued at one million, two hundred and eighty thousand naira were also stolen.
During police investigation, three MTN recharge cards valued at Nl,506 each among the stolen recharge cards were recovered from the accused person.
When the charges were read to the accused, he denied them and his counsel applied for his bail, which was objected by the prosecutor, who said granting him bail may jeopardize police investigation.
Chief Magistrate Ahmed Shuaib ordered that the accused be remanded in prisons custody and gave the police one week to round up their investigation on the matter.
He then adjourned the case to October 11 for ruling on the bail request by the accused person.
