Two in court over forgery of presidency identity card

TWO men were on Friday arraigned before an Abuja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly forging and duplicating a Presidential Amnesty Programme’s identity card.

Itoro Anienna, 27, and David Friday, 35, were charged with forgery and criminal conspiracy, which are offences contrary to Sections 97, 364 and 366 of the Penal Code.

Prosecutor Chris Ojeh told the court that on February 9, one Lawrence Pepple reported to the Inspector-General of Police that the accused persons specialize in forging and duplicating identity cards of the Presidential Amnesty Programme and use them as genuine documents.

He said the accused persons were reported to the police based on a directive by the Special Adviser to the president on Niger Delta and chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Kingsley Kuku.

When the charges were read to the accused persons, they pleaded not guilty and requested for bail which was opposed by the prosecutor on grounds that investigations have not been concluded.

Chief Magistrate Azubuike Okeagu ordered that accused persons be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case to March 12 for hearing.
