Nemesis is man’s oldest enemy. It was the recognition of this eternal truth that made Shakespeare reaches the irrefutable conclusion that the evil men do lives after them. But nowadays, the evil men do lives with them. This is exactly how I see the trials of Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida and Atiku Abubakar. Their trials and those of Nigerians started the day they worked tirelessly to register the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. They were ignorant of the monster they were creating and its tendency to become their political albatross.
PDP was created in a military fashion with no rules except that which enhanced its profitability. The founders of the party thought themselves clever enough to introduced rotation of power as the surest safety valve that will safeguard them and their interest within the party. It is this safety valve and safeguard mechanism that has now put the founding fathers on trial. Among them are Babangida and Atiku. This has consumed the most principled and disciplined politicians who had the misfortune of allowing their valued reputation dragged into what they saw at face value as political party. Little did they know that their reputation was only needed to give the imperial party integrity and confer a sort of legitimacy on the few people who brought forth the party for the purpose of continuing the impoverishment of Nigerians. While these good fellows were being booted out of the party for daring to question the moral plank on which the party was operating, Babangida, Obasanjo and Atiku were relishing in their accomplishments. It s is now their turn to taste the fascist character of the PDP.
