Corps Members Fortified Against Cerebrospinal Meningitis in

Due to the hot climatic condition of the Northern parts of Nigeria, Cerebrospinal Meningitis has turned out to be an issue of concern to Nigerians traveling up north.

In the light of this, the management of the National Youth Service Corps, Niger State, took it upon itself to vaccinate all corps members posted to the State to avoid having any casualty from the deadly disease.

The vaccination exercise took place on the 13th of July 2010, after a team of medical experts had given a brief lecture on the ailment and tips on how to avoid it.

However, there was a mild drama as corps members who have phobia for needles found it difficult to stand still in order to allow the health personnel administer the vaccine. The Senior health officials had to persuade and assure the corps members of their safety from the needles before they overcame their phobia and got vaccinated.

The vaccination exercise, in addition to the free medical treatment offered to corps members on camp, goes a long way to show a demonstration of the management’s resolve to deal with health issues.
