For you to develop your potentials, you need to discover your person. Self awareness is growth. Many youths today are trying to be like others. They want to “belong” without knowing the basis of the other person’s fame or wealth. There is nothing wrong in emulating others, except that if you try to emulate others without first knowing yourself, you may tend to be the person which you cannot perfectly become. In which case, you will be wearing a “social” masks; trying to identify with others’ fame.
We often see our youths saying words like: “The Governor is from my village,” “my father is a friend to the President,” “my aunt is a minister.” Such persons have realized their failure, and so try to fill the vacuum with others’ fame and identities as social security.
There are some of us who are born great with vast quality and quantity of potentials but are living wretched. We fail to tap into our inner self and explore those qualities which have been endowed in us by the Most High.
Sometimes, we make everything complicated by trying to be sophisticated, without realizing that it is the basic things that matters. We think that they’re so basic that they need not be given too much concern – when just the opposite is true! It’s those special few that learn the truth about mastering the simple things who become great.
Those who are successful today, who we see as being blessed or lucky did not just wake up one morning and became like that. No, they knew their potentials, they believed in themselves and they tapped into those inner qualities to achieving their goals.
I remember a popular story of an eaglet who found herself with chickens, because nobody told her that she is an eaglet, she lived and died a chicken. The second version of the story has it that, one day as an eaglet was eating and playing with the chickens someone called her and told her that she does not belong to the class of chickens, that she belongs to the class of Eagles and that she ought to be flying in the air instead of eating sand. Having realized her potentiality of living and flying in the air she attempted to be an eagle. And she eventually flew. It was after this that she realized her full potentials.
Like the first version of the story, many people who are eagles are living and dying like chickens. They are living this way because they are not aware of their potentials. Most of our youth do complain of unemployment, they search for job with everything they’ve got; body soul, mind, money (which they don’t have in the first place), not realizing that they have talents, which, when harnessed could lead them to greatness.
The more basic, the more fundamental, the more simplistic something is, the more vital it is to reaching your goal. “Only in knowing thyself can ye know the true part to reach thy goal.” Learn to have quite moment and go deep into yourself to search for those hidden qualities. Qualities you don’t know you have or those you have intentionally pushed aside. Get to know who you are. Be sure of yourself and be determined.
Nobody can achieve anything without taking a decision. How do you want your life to be like, ten years from now? It is a decision you can take today. Your joy of being a millionaire today will be because of your decision yesterday.
