LOVE HURTS

Ever wondered why falling or growing in love which is the most beautiful experience one can feel is also the same that hurts the most?

It is because when in love or in a relationship, we expect the other person to be flawless and perfect. We expect the other person to always be there for us, know what we want and feel at all times. We tend to put all our burdens, hope and love on the other forgetting he is also human with flaws. We just expect so much and believe the other should do as much or more than we are contributing to the relationship. This is why we get hurt so much.

Love hurts so much that one suffers from heart break, falls ill or feels he/she can never love again. When there are problems in a relationship, you start hurting the other so he/she will know how you are feeling and tend to forget all the promises of when you fell in love and agreed to go into the relationship.

Ways of not hurting too much in a relationship:
• Loving the person as you would love yourself.
• Don’t expect too much from the other person.
• Be yourself so the other can also be real to you.
• Say what is on your mind and what you want i.e. don’t assume the other person knows you.
• Don’t stay angry for too long, tell your partner he/she hurt you so he/she can apologize and forgive.
• Love more with your head and not your heart.
• No third party in your relationship.
• Don’t allow another person to dictate or poison your mind about the other person you are dating or married to.
• Know nobody is perfect but be proud he/she is yours!

Above all, know that Love is patient and kind, not jealous nor boastful, not irritable nor resentful, does not insist on its own way, does not rejoice in wrong but right, endures all things and hopes all things and never ends. Please note that “Hearts are often broken when there are words unspoken” as Whitney Houston’s song said in Waiting to exhale. And let the other know that there’s no place you’d rather be than right there with him/her.
