Year End Tango!

Wow! It’s august already, that means the year is slowly but surely coming to an end. I love the vibes I get at this time of the year. What particularly thrills me most is the rate at which relationships are solemnized. Yes, the weddings!

I’ve always thought it the most romantic time for the nuptial dance. I mean starting the New Year in the arms of the one you love is worth all the money you can spend, plus you get to update your status from engaged to married.

Lagos is alive every Saturday with all the colourful headties and satin laces, the jeeps and cool rides artfully decorated. The whole get up makes a single girl want to cry.

But seriously, I have concerns about late in the year weddings. Is it that economical? For your pocket I mean, considering the fact that the price of everything in the market would have skyrocketed. Halls and event places charge more, with so many couples waiting to grab a space; food is expensive as everyone would be ordering something or the other.

There’s always a way out. If you want to have that romantic end of the year wedding so you can wake up in the arms of your love on the first day of the new year, but still want to keep costs down, consider these two simple but profound steps.

–        Keep it simple

Do you really need that aso ebi? Okay, I’m sure you’re ready to lynch me now, considering that the aso ebi has become a wedding fashion statement.

But seriously, it’s a lot of stress and money expended. Why not help your train save money by wearing something they already have in their closet. You could select a theme colour and have them freestyle. (I happen not to like the idea of train ladies looking like two peas in a pod).

Also consider the money needed to rent that expensive limo or jeep. Why not rather have a friend, uncle aunt or even boss let you have theirs for your special day?

I’m sure you get my point.

–         Make bookings ahead of time.

Why not inform the event place of your ceremony months ahead. It’ll save you a lot of stress and money too. Except you’re planning to elope and the wedding date is a top secret!  :)

Even the caterer can be given enough notice, make a down payment if possible and you trust the vendor. That way all things will be ready in due time and at minimal cost.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you have the time of your life but remember you don’t want to wake up to an empty pocket the morning after!.

I am interested in the Principal job. Can I apply by email as I am not in Lagos?
