I stumbled across the captivating “7 Lessons from Bill Gates’ Road to Success’ recently and decided to share some of the transcendental thoughts and deeds of this wizard who has crossed the rubicon – as far as success with charity is concerned. Below is an excerpt:
One, seize the moment; 24 hours is a constant factor for everyone. What differentiates us is our % judicious use of time. Never say: when we get to the bridge, we shall cross.
Two, follow your passion; The heart is the greatest asset of man. Take hold of your interest which will remain irrestible regardless of where you are or where you’ve been.
Three, keep your eye on the ball; Be focused and determined. Do not be discouraged by every gust of wind.
Four, delay your gratification; Never settle for anything less. Personal capacity building must never cease even when mental menopause knocks.
Five, never mind the day of little beginning; Great things start small and little drops of water make an ocean. Watch how a young baby grows from birth and you’ll be amazed!
Six, success happens when opportunity meets with preparation; No man goes to the battle field unprepared. An opportunity which knocks at the doorstep of an unprepared fellow only leads to failure.
Seven, start early but stick to your mentor the way a stamp sticks to an envelope till it gets to its destination; The rule of the game is tolerance and perseverance. To be great, learn from those that have achieved greatness.
I was indeed moved by these points (emphases in italics are mine) but I think something is missing. To be totally successfully, there is an eight order. And that is to know your God and serve him with all your heart. Afterall, we’ve heard times without numbers that prayer is the all-embracing solution.
