GUIDE THOU OUR LEADERS

The survival of any one nation, community or people I believed is totally hinged on divine intervention. Ask the likes of our current President Goodluck Jonathan whose good fortune came about not by mere good luck but good old divine intervention. Not by lobbying, slandering of opponents, assassinating and what not but simply by waiting for time and chance. With the next elections fast approaching and the emergence of various parties and candidates vying for different positions, one can only wonder and speculate what the outcome of all these preparations would be.

It is amazing how some people believe that they can just wake up one morning and wish to become president and expect that it would happen I the blink of an eye. Or how some leaders think to quell boredom in their lives and decide that contesting in an election would be a good alternative. But whatever the reason may be; be it the genuine intent to effect to effect a change and be the Moses of their generation, or the complacent ambition of those who want to play master and puppet. The truth that seems to elude most of us is that in the final analysis, nobody really has a say in the eventual outcome of these matters.

Everything and I mean every single thing is hinged on divine guidance and not on human effort or manipulation. One must not think that planning and effort do not have their part to play. Labor usually has its end result in favorable, satisfactory outcome. That is why one need not neglect the due process or order in the scheme of things. Our leaders need to know that with great power comes great responsibility, accountability as well as transparency.

With the coming elections in sight, it is our duty to cry out for divine assistance on behalf of our leaders. The author of our national anthem was not wrong when he called on the “God of creation” to direct our leaders, because if truth be told, we can’t do it any other way.
