PARADISE LOST

In continuation of exploring interesting places to visit in Nairobi, I discovered Kenya’s best kept secret

Paradise lost was given the name by a group of colonial mapmakers who one day stumbled onto an area that was breathtakingly beautiful that they called it ‘a lost paradise’. Till today it remains as beautiful as the day it was discovered.

Being just a short drive from Nairobi, it is situated at the southernmost edge of the coast of Kenya between the calm waters of the Indian Ocean and the fresh water Ramisi River. It is home to rich birdlife, wildlife and crocodiles.

It’s a great place to visit for day trips and the huge ancient caves which you can enter, hidden behind a waterfall are worth visiting no matter your age.

Boating Lake

The parkland is built around a boating lake with around 15 boats which can hold nine people each. You can hire the boats and life jackets which are suitable for children from the age of 8 and adults. Swimming is not allowed in the lake but fishing is permitted.

Rides

Horses are available for whole day hiring for rides in the forest or for children. Although, if you prefer short rides are also offered

Exciting camel rides are offered for free on weekdays but paid for during the weekends.

Food

Food is not offered at paradise lost but open sided bandas and plastic chairs are provided with toilet and washroom facilities. Sunday picnics are very popular!

There are big crowds of people during the weekends but for a quieter time, weekdays are usually very quiet so you can have the whole place to yourself.
