Critism is the act of giving your opinion or judgement about the good and bad qualities of something.It can also be defined as a written or spoken remarks that express your disapproval of something or someoneg.
There are two types of criticsm:Constructive and destructive critism. Constructive critics do it intelectually without a “secret” motive. They are always objective & non-dogmatic. They address issue with ultimate politeness and calmness without attacking the personalty of the character involved.
And most importantly,constructive critics dont only criticise a method/scheme but also provide an alternative way of excecuting it.
In constructive criticism,theres often a mutual compromise between the critics and the character being criticised. Constructive critism is neither a libel nor a petition.The oppinion of the person criticised is always respected.
Destructive critism on the other hand is mostly done by angry,envious,subjective and dogmatic people. They are always particular about the character’s fault without looking at the merits.
Relating this to politics in Nigeria,people who often criticises the government are mostly people who are eyeing political offices but they are not opportuned. They are mostly people who will jump at any political appointments if it arises. They are people who has nothing to offer the society. They are people who are seeking cheap popularity.They are people who wants to steal headlines by scathing at popular figures. Destructive criticsm does not provide solution to a problem,it rather complicates it.
Although,critism may be somewhat violent no matter the way it is done whether constructively or destructively,yet,it is a much needed ingredient for meaning developnent because no one can be absolutely wrong. Critics chalenges a person or group to do more. It sometimes reveals better ways of excecuting a plan. When you know critics are watching,you will do your home work very well and take neccesary precautions to make errors as minimal as posible.
Both constructive and destructive are desirable.However,there should be much of constructive critics than destructive.
Without critism,there will no arrays of ideas. Choices will be streamlined and the society may remain static.
Without,personalties like Gani fawehinmi,wole soyinka,Femi Falana and others,leaders like Ibb,Obj,Bola tinubu and others wouldnt be forced to do more. They have asked:why did u do it like this? Cant you do it like that?
Yes,criticism is the ingredient needed a meaningful development in every society.
