There is a great burden in my heart as i put this together, but i fear for the Nigerian youth. The million dollar question is “do we still still have the right mindset to deliver on the future we carry on the inside because the Nigeria of tomorrow totally depends on it.
While i might not be the greatest of Fela Durotoye’s fans, he mentioned something on a radio program today when asked to leave a word with nigerians, all he said was “deliver the future” and it struck me that as youths and future of this nation we cannot afford to fail.Wole Soyinka once said theirs was a wasted generation, and i wondered aloud ‘what a submission’, but it is no less than the truth.Rather than create a Nigeria where we can leverage from, we are having to revisit the foundation so that we may rebuild afresh after the total and calamitous failures of our leaders albeit because of their selfish and wanton motives.need i say Nigeria is 50,and we are still at the point of rebuilding then when does the real life take off if a nation is still rebuilding at 50.
All hope is not lost though, but we must admit that there is a problem and set out to fix it,or else we might soon cease to have a nation or our own children would curse us for failing, asking how it ever got to that point. The president of the united states once said something that “if Africa is to develop, the youths must realize it is up to them”.Enough of waiting for people from other continents to come and develop our own,its about time we took the bull by the horn.
As youths, our mindset must change because often times the average youth would tell you if he is given power just for a day,he would embezzle what would last him a lifetime. This is a mentality that can only lead to self destruction and an implosion of the worst scale.its about time we told ourselves the truth, and that is Nigeria must change course and follow the right path,so we can take our rightful place in the comity of nations and give leadership to Africa a continent so desperately in need of it.but like they say, charity must first begin at home.
Nigerian youths,it is time to deliver the future;the new Nigeria.
