ECHOES OF REVOLUTION

A revolution is an act of violence whereby one class shatters the authority of another, which simply means when a revolution occurs, there is a transfer of power from one class to another. And for any society that does not embrace change, that society is on its way to extinction.

In Nigeria’s case a certain class or group or cabal, as they are fondly referred to have held Nigerians to ransom on a lot of things, denying Nigerians basic amenities because of their selfish interest.

Nobody wants violence, recently in other parts of the world placards [for peaceful protest] have brought about the desired change, but we must note that Nigeria’s case is a phenomenon, a country where corruption has been embraced as a way of life, our right to a fair electoral process/democratic transition has been denied on different occasions, the question on everyone’s mind is where does our hope lie, in “what and in who”.

Is Goodluck Jonathan the man who will bring the desired change? I personally don’t see him as someone who ready to rock the boat or start the desired revolution. He is a conservative and reading from his biography he is not a radical but he stands to prove me wrong.

Perhaps the singular issue that can easily lead to a revolution in Nigeria now or in the future is election rigging. As John F Kennedy once noted,”those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable”. Nigerian leaders should therefore give what the people want: free and fair election come 2011. If they think the Nigerian civil war would be or was the worst thing that could ever happen to Nigeria they should have a re think. Following the bible quotation saying “In the days of John the Baptist the kingdom of God suffereth violence and the violent taketh it by force. Those days are fast approaching; apparent docility should not be regarded as foolishness.  Nigerian’s are ready to get involved. No more ‘siddon look’, because siddon look no pay us again.
