General Etiquettes

Manners cost us nothing, yet earn us respect when we use them.

The basic etiquettes have been forgotten by the younger generation, but the older generation may well remember a few of these basic etiquettes like

  • Don’t  point –its rude
  • Don’t eat in the street-It looks common
  • Don’t chew gum unless its absolutely necessary-its uncomely and demeans your social standing
  • Don’t talk with you mouth full –you may choke or spit some of it out
  • Don’t shout when speaking to someone-keep your voice down
  • Don’t interrupt-its selfish and ill-mannered
  • Don’t use swear words or slang-it doesn’t impress anyone it’s the language of those with limited vocabulary
  • Open doors for the  elderly  and women
  • Hold doors open for whoever is coming behind you-in or out
  • Don’t stare –its equivalent to psychological aggression ;you don’t want to intimidate people for no reason
  • Always use please and thank you
  • Don’t spit-its crude
  • Don’t talk behind peoples backs
  • Show respect for those older and wiser than you.

Without respect and consideration for others we are nothing but savages.

Manners and etiquettes are what distinguish us from apes and a good number of our fellow human beings, there are no hard and fast rules on the subject of etiquettes .In a nut shell having good manners is showing courtesy and consideration for other people at all times in all circumstances ‘putting yourself in their shoes and thereby not being offensive or disrespectful. Having evolved from customs  and protocols this process is common to all countries  and cultures  and has developed over the ages to ensure a harmonious society-they are even amazingly enshrined in the ten commandments and bible as a whole. We are urged to love our neighbours as ourselves.
