Balls are meant to be played on the football pitch, lawn tennis court, golf course etc, but events in the last few years has shown that sportsmen are now irresponsibly kicking the ball indiscriminately around in an alarming manner. The rate at which high profile sports men now go around having illicit sex with prostitute, ex-girl friend of team mate, teenagers, etc calls for concern.
In the last 12 months a lot has been reported on the private life of top sportsmen, bulk of these on top English premiership football players. Just before the world cup, it was reported that John Terry was involved with the ex-girl friend of Wayne Bridge, a former team at Chelsea FC and then mate at the national level. The dust hardly settled on that when a report on Ashley Cole cheating on his wife was published, Cole unlike Terry was unable to save his marriage. It was also reported that Steven Gerrard impregnated a 16 year old girl and Peter Crouch who is engaged to TV Presenter Abigal Clancy is having an affairs with a prostitute. Wayne Rooney who plays for Manchester United and currently married to Coleen is facing a scandal similar to that of Crouch. These kind of secret illicit affairs when exposed in most cases destabilize them and causes drop in their performance, which doesn’t justify the huge amount of money they earn.
This kind of illicit actions are not restricted to footballers alone; Elin Nordegren recently divorced Tiger Wood a celebrated golfer because of the golfers’ involvement in extra marital affairs. Kolbe Bryant, a celebrated basketball player was also reported to be involved in sex scandal one time or another. These are role models that children should be emulating, but their way of life is not in any way portraying what it should be. It is therefore relevant that these men should be called to order in the way they live their life. Private life is private life, but they have chosen to be public figures that children see and tried to emulate, therefore they should live their devoid of illicit actions.
