There are various diseases being isolated by specialist on a daily basis. The one that recently caught my attention is known as the malignant mesothelioma. It caught my attention based on many reasons. The first is the mode of contacting this disease, second is the latency period and thirdly the fact that the disease has no known cure or survivor.
Mesothelioma and asbestos.
It is an alarming fact to know that a very serious terminal disease can be gotten from a product that was intended to better the life that we live. When asbestos was discovered it was to be used in the beautifying of homes and products that requires it uses. There is hardly any home or public place that has not used the product either on the ceiling or the wall. There are also many people who meet their daily needs by working in asbestos manufacturing industries all over the world. It was now a shocking revelation to know that a mere inhalation or ingestion of the fiber of asbestos can lead to personal injury that will eventually lead to death. We all know that asbestos has been outlawed in some countries of the world but the fact still remains that some countries are still using it regularly. What a calamity to the human race.
The latency period
One known fact about malignant mesothelioma is that it can stay in the body of the infected for many years before it can be detected. This is why most of the sufferers of this disease are within the ages of 40-70 years. This simply shows that the disease can stay in the body for a period of 20 years without being detected by a routine medical check up.
There are no mesothelioma survivors.
The rate at which people die because of the malignant mesothelioma disease is becoming alarming. This is because the early symptoms exhibited by the sufferer of the disease are often times confused with the symptoms of other common diseases. The earliest time to then discover the true nature of the sickness is when it has gotten to the advanced stage and during this period, it is always too late to prescribe any form of treatment for the patient. The patient will only live for a period of one year after the discovery of the disease, which is why there has been no survivor of the disease till date.
When the world is face with this kind of disease and there is the possibility that so many have not hard about it then what lies a head for this generation?
