President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday announced plans of privatizing The power sector in Nigeria. It is on record that the last administration of Obasanjo kick started a reform in the sector, which was brought to a halt by the Late President Yar’adua.
Oweing to the very evident inefficieny of PHCN, coupled with the attendant gross mis application of funds, highlighting a high level of corruption in the sector, many keen follower of events in the sector were actually pleased to hear about the privatization plans.
Truth is, with the coming of of foreign investors with proven records, Nigerians are sure to get steady power supply as obtainable in other countries of the world. This will in turn boost industrialization, and provide the support small and medium enterprise needs. simply put Nigerians should expect a big boost in the economy once power becomes stable.
On the other hand, Nigerians should not complain of High Tarrif, because good things dont come cheap. These investors are definitely going to pump in lots of money into the sector, and they surely are not into charity.
just like waht we witnessed in the telecoms sector, we are highly anticipating change in the sector, and there couldnt be a better tim e for it. thank you Mr President.
