I met someone for the first time and he talked so much I wondered what he was trying to hide.
Talk, they say, is cheap and I have proven that to be true. That is why I sometimes think that democracy has its downside, which is cheap talk and the military has its upside which is action. Democracy is good where we have decisive and focused leaders who have a vision and a plan to follow through the goals set towards achieving that vision.
I have never been one to trust a man of many words; I may give him the benefit of doubt but will only trust him when his words are followed by consistent action over a period of time. One ought to be cautious around a man of many words!
Today, so many of us are not concerned with the words, ‘integrity’ and ‘character’. We throw words about carelessly and we speak with such contradiction, we soon tend to believe even our lies. Words are empty without actions. It is much like faith which is dead without corresponding actions.
We have a propensity to live beneath our potentials because the rest of the world seems to be doing just that. The rest of the world is wallowing in mediocrity and life begs us to be different. There has to be something in us that is demanding more from us. Something begging us to stretch further than our present reach, something that is frustrated with us for sitting so long in this place of comfort, something challenging us to go further than mere talk , that we Act!
Think of it, as 2009 came to an end, thousands of people across the country from different professional backgrounds were sent home. What next? Scour the cities and newspapers for another job? Some people will be clueless as to what to do next. 2010 could just go by and they’ll still be feeling let down by their employers, the government and the circumstances they find themselves in.
Think again, it could happen to anyone! Don’t say God forbid! It could just be God kicking you off your comfort zone to go fulfill the purpose for which He created you. Life owes you nothing! You owe yourself everything!
Proverbs 16:1, 9 reads, ”The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord. ” A man’s heart devises his way: but the Lord directs his steps.”
It is your part to think and plan, God does the guiding and the leading and creates the opportunity for you to take the first step. When you fail to plan, they say, you plan to fail. God won’t bless what you wish for, He’ll bless what you have. Start with that- what you have!
Stop making excuses as to why you can’t and why you won’t. Stop hoping God will speak to you like He spoke to Moses – face to face. Get up and look within for the one thing that you know you have been gifted to do. Stir up that gift of God within you and see that gift open doors for you.
Proverbs 18:16 says, ”A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before great men.”
Education is good but it will only take you so far, your God given ability, talent or gift will take you where you never dreamed of.
As Dr. Myles Munroe puts it,
” The world won’t move over for you just because you’re smart. Whenever you exercise your gift, however, the world will not only make room for you, but it will also pay you for it.”
Stop sitting on your backside waiting for a miracle.
Think. Plan. Act.
God help us!
