There is an old African story about the soldier ant and African python (a big snake). Long time ago the python boasted one day that it is strongest and most dangerous creeping animal in the world, when the soldier ant heard it became angry. Then it challenged the python to a fight, but the python scorned and said, “I will beat you with my eye closed.” After that day the ant made up its mind to show everyone that it is more dangerous than any other animal. So one day he together with all its colony members-measuring up to millions of ant in all went and lay abuse for the python. Fortunately enough the python fell into the hands of the ants, so they ran all over it, covering it from head to tail, immediately the python begin to struggle, roll round the floor, hissing, spitting and spraying venom…the more it struggled the more the ants covers and sting it! In the middle of the melee, the python in confusion bite its self and injected loads of venoms into itself. Then after much struggle the python became weak and tired as a result of the venom in its blood streams, and then it grows weaker and weaker until finally died from its wound and the stings of the ants! Then the ants shouted, “Alas the ants and killed the mighty python!”
Now the moral of the above story is simple, working together can cause great results. I mean when people or animals work together as a team, they can do the impossible, just like the ants. Who could have taught a little ant can kill a mighty python? But with team work it is very easy.
What does team mean?
Team is a group of people working, playing, living, or doing things in common to achieve a certain goal. A team is very common these days, we speak of management team in organisations, football team etc, all these people come together for a goal. Without the coming together these people can achieve a little, but when they come together, they achieve great things. For example, the bee is know for producing honey, but put one bee in a place alone. What will happen is that it will not do anything but die. It can only survive in a colony (i.e. with other bees)
Someone once said T.E.A.M. means Together Each Achieve More. What does this mean? This can mean a number of things: First when people work together as a team they tend achieve most of the goals set before them, however, after achieving those goals as a team, individuals in returns are able to achieve their personal goals just because they worked together. In other words when people work together it benefits the group as well as each members of such a group.
In the bible days, Jesus showed us example of using a team. He chose 12 men to work with him – disciples. Jesus though he is the Lord of lords, still refuse to work alone, he chose 12 disciples to work with. So we must follow this example work together to achieve great things in the church. In 1 Corinthians 12:18-20. . .God made our bodies with many parts, and he has put each part just where he wants it. What a strange thing a body would be if it had only one part! Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. A team can also relate to our body, it functions as one-but with different parts, so a team must be united to function. Team work is everywhere in nature (among animals), hyenas live for survival, lions too, locusts, elephants, etc each of all these animals don’t live alone because if they do, their chances of survival is very slim. Team work is it!
