the rainy season commences very early in the garden city of port Harcourt.Unlike places like lokoja in kogi state who dont see the early rains until probably april the rains commence as early as january in portharcourt and then begin in full force in june.
This is sometimes good news for farmers but the sad thing however is that the rains come down with so much intensity in a city that has poor drainage system that at the end of each raining expedition we have nothing less of riverss on our roads! commuters swimming through dirty waters that have emerged from gutters coupled with additiond from trash! it is a terrible eye sore.Places like Rumuigbo, and location are no go areas during the rains. Some home owners even abandon their homes during this season.
Is the rainy season a season to dread?what can be done to make life easier for the dear people of Rivers State?there is only one way to solve this pesky problem….
People of Port harcourt and it environs should clean their surroundings and ensure that drainages(where they are available) should be kept clean and unblocked. We must not wait for the government to clean our environment before we keep it clean, neither do we have to wait for the likes of akass-baba to ask us to “grow up”.
A clean environment is devoid of ilness and disease.
Cleanliness is next to Godliness.
