UNSAFE ABORTION (An excerpt from my essay on Unsafe Abortion)

Hips, breasts, sexual intercourse, sexual activity, friendship, love, unplanned pregnancies, unsafe abortion, damaged uteruses, guilty minds, a generation of women about to go down the drain.

Abortion has been there since the existence for a long long time, as history says women have always thought of ways of terminating pregnancies for various reasons. Young people experimenting in their pubertal stages most times resulted in unplanned pregnancies which most times they are not both psychological, financially and physically capable of taking care of the pregnancy and the expected baby or babies as the case may be.

Abortion is a controversial issue because few people are interested in women’s issues especially female reproductive and sexual health and even fewer know about women’s actual personal experiences with it.

There is a great silence about issues relating to abortion because of the very religious backgrounds most of us grew up in seeing abortion as sin, and of course it is only women who get pregnant and would seek abortion services, so the decision of whether it is morally wrong or right for her to have an abortion service still rest in the hands of the opposite sex like other issues.

Many societies have closed their eyes/mouths to abortion issues hoping it will disappear obviously this is not true; where there are men and women, there will be pregnancy and where there is pregnancy, there will be an abortion at one instance or another. It has always occurred and always will.

Abortion is not an isolated issue, it is a core reality we need to face in order to address many other aspects of our lives, until we come to terms with the fact that there always will pregnancies that people, couples do not intend to keep to term for various reasons then we will not be able be comprehensively discuss abortion and it’s related issues, talk less of how to make it available, affordable, and over all safe
