DRESSING TO IMPRESS

Like it or not, your style and fashion choices speaks volumes about your personality. The moment you step out your door, you put yourself on display and most times people tend to judge you based on how you look. There isn’t a second chance at making a first impression, so whether it’s a first date, the first meeting with the future in-laws, or just regular office, here are a few tips for dressing to impress.

Dressing appropriately for office is about striking a balance between looking good and looking professional and competent without having to sacrifice personal style and comfort. You want to project a confident and professional yet stylish appearance. Comfort is key here; you really don’t want to be worrying about tight belts or aching ankles during a board meeting. Clothes should not be too tight or loose and the colours should be rightly selected

You’re meeting your future in-laws for the first time and you have no idea what to wear? Since it’s not the traditional introduction ceremony yet, I say keep it simple and conservative. This is not the time for ‘satellite’ headgears (except like maybe your fiancé’s invited you to a ceremony and you’re meeting them there). They’ve got to see you as ‘correct’ wife material for their son, so by all means, try dress the part.. It all depends on the ‘nature’ of your future in-laws and its important to take time out to get as much info as possible before hand from your fiancé, so your mother-in-law to be doesn’t start to make goo-goo eyes at you!

On a first date, it’s important to look impressive, elegant and comfortable. Clothes that are revealing could be sending the wrong signals. But then again, don’t come out looking like a ‘sister Mary Amaka’ (except, well you’re actually a sister Mary Amaka! and you’re going on a date with Bro Livinus!!!). An elegant, flattering yet casual look is what you should be aiming at. If your dressing is impressive and your attitude is better, I bet the only thing you’ll be worrying about is how to keep up with the constant dates that will be sure to come afterwards.

Whatever the circumstances, comfort and decency are the most important factors to be considered. Having them in mind, you really can’t go wrong.
