NYSC: THE TSIGA GINGER

NYSC: THE TSIGA GINGER

The director general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) did not only resume office early 2009, he brought hope to the “Battalions” of Youth Corps Members across the nation who may have seen the mandatory service year as a huge waste of time.

The Director General soon after his appointment started visiting orientation camps across the nation and spreading  the message of hope to the youths. His sermon: “what happens now in your life  tomorrow or in the nearest future is as a direct result of the life you are living now. You decide what you are going to be or make of your life. It is not FATE. It is not up to the STARS and it is not the function of your parents, but YOU. It is only you that can decide your tomorrow, your future, your FATE”.

These are some of the challenging statements, the NYSC DG, Brig. General M.I. Tsiga made on his visit last year at the orientation camp at Umunya, in Anambra State. The DG encouraged and reminded the corps members of their rights and duties to the nation. He further described the corps members as the future hope of the nation and promised to encourage corps members with brilliant ideas that will open doors for employment. In the DG, I saw humility in human form.

The DG made a cash donation to different groups of corps members, also he donated two cows for the camp fire night and gave out his personal mobile phone numbers to corps members. He bridged the gap between the body and the participating youths.

This is a new era for the National Youths Service Corps as the DG gave the Nigerian youths hope and faith. Though my NYSC days have come and gone; filled with turmoil, characters and fun. It is a thing of joy to see smiles on the faces of Nigerian youths once more who want to see Nigeria great again.
