EXCESS PLEASURE CAUSE PAIN?
I always had pinches from female friends and even had to conclude that that was the only from of play they knew. Most of my friends happen to be muscular in nature and after a while I got used to this kind of pain. I got so used to pinches I began to derive some pleasure from it. It was then that I developed the idea that “whatever causes pain must be related to that which causes pleasure”. After much pondering, I sort of developed a theory that “pain is excess pleasure”. I might not be ripe enough as a scientist to go into research just to prove my theory or even take some lectures on neurology to get facts to back my idea up but I think I have little evidences to back my claim up. Think about these:
Why do you need someone to help you scratch your back and then still ask for a stop when you enjoy it so much?
Why do you laugh when you get tickled and still feel uncomfortable with it?
Why don’t you just eat as much food as you can get if eating is such a pleasure?
Definitely, providing answers to the aforementioned questions would set your thoughts in motion.
Pain just has to be related with pleasure. According to concise medial dictionary 6th Edition, Pain is an unpleasant sensation ranging from mild discomfort to agonized distress associated with real or potential tissue damage.
Personally, I have come to understand that the human flesh is like an elastic material which enjoys being stretched but of course has a breaking point (tissue damage). To me, pain is just the meter that blinks “red” when the breaking point is near. The big question is- How does this relate this to our everyday life?
There are so many things we derive pleasure from doing that may eventually cause pain to us if done in excess. Our life is elastic, it has a breaking point. It bends or curls just to suit us but we should understand and recognized its limits. Our life is directly or indirectly linked with our body. As long as we live, our being is fully represented on earth by our body. Consequently, whatever we do with our bodies affect our lives thus; every individual has a responsibility to protect himself/herself from pain.
Pain in this context might not necessarily mean physical pain caused by exposure to hazards that lead to instant body damage: Pain could be:
An unfulfilled life
Unwanted pregnancy
STDs or even HIV/AIDS
Addiction to drugs
Obesity
Bankruptcy e.t.c
All these and many more are painful to our wellbeing and the sad thing about them is they always appear as pleasure until it is impossible to stop them.
Never be carried away by what you are enjoying now. Remember everything that goes up must come down. You could be experiencing pleasure from that way of life now but be reminded that “excess pleasure cause pain”.
