Recent discoveries has given hope to people suffering from this diseases and also preventing it.The breakthrough was that a type of fat-intramyocelular lipid-was found to be building up in the muscle cells of people with diabetes, preventing glucose from entering the cells. It’s thought this fat builds up due to the failure of tiny structures inside the cells(mitochondria) to burn it fast enough and keep it at a manageable level.
RESEACHERS believe diabetics may lack mitochondria. So eating fatty foods causes build -up of intramyocellular lipids in your muscles and ‘turns off’ the genes that produce fat-burning mitochondria.Eating a low-fat diet, meanwhile reduces intramyocellular lipids and allows the insulin in your body to unlock your cells for its delivery and supply of the much needed glucose.
So instead of using diet to try and control the results of the insulin resistance by keeping blood sugar surges to a minimum, we can now use diet and nutrition to reduce the fat building up in cells, letting the body’s own insulin metabolism get back on track and manage its own blood sugar.Reseach from a number of colleges has shown that people who avoid animal products have less build-up of intramyocellular lipids.
In South East Asia and parts of Africa where people eat lot of rice ,vegetables ,grain, noodles and beans(complex carbohydrates, rather than refined kinds-such as white bread -as it is obtained in the West),plus less diarry and meat ,there is a lower rate of type 2 diabetes.
Studies to investigate the effect of diet on diabetes have revealed that following the new diabetes diet, or ‘reverse diabetes diet’ ,is so effective it can help some people reduce their diabetes medication-or even stop taking it all together(but never change your medication without consulting your doctor). They also usually lose weight, lower their cholester
ol levels and blood pressure, and regain energy.
