How many windows do you have in your room? One? Two?
Don’t be scared! I’m not planning to come and take a peek at your room, whatever you’re doing there. I’m just more concerned about your health and comfort. So now you’re asking, ‘What do windows have to do with my health?’ Lots.
Do you know that every living space (including your bedroom) needs a constant means of providing and circulating fresh air? Well, this is called Ventilation. This is where the windows come in handy.
In every enclosed space, there must be a channel to bring in fresh air, as well as another channel to allow for vitiated air to get out, and this would require at least two openable windows. Now, these windows should not be on the same wall, but on either opposite or adjacent walls.
With inadequate ventilation – where there is only one window, or even when the window is too close to the fence, all gaseous waste generated within gets stuck inside simply because its quite difficult for fresh and stale air to pass through the same opening at the same time. Talk of animosity! Well imagine you inhaling all the mess – stale breath, sweat, fart and all! These of course can cause ill-health.
So you see, I’m actually talking of your health and comfort, and you understand why your friend’s room is always cool, while yours is hot and stuffy even when the fan is on. Its not too late to punch a hole into that wall and fix an extra window. For those who are about to or in the process of building your house (congrats!) make sure you get a qualified Architect to do the job for you, and ask him how many windows he’s fixing in your room.
It may not be the presence of that in-law that’s responsible for your ill-health. It may be the absence of that W-in-dow!
