ABOUT 34 commercial sex workers and one customer were arrested at the weekend in different points in Abuja.
The commercial sex workers were arrested in a raid, carried out by a joint task force, comprising staff of the FCT Social Development Secretariat, Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) and security operatives.
Secretary, FCT Social Development Secretariat, Mrs. Blessing Onuh, who led the team warned all commercial sex workers to stay away from the nation’s capital as the FCT Administration would not rest on its oars until the city is completely rid of their activities.
Onuh, who was represented by the deputy director social welfare in the secretariat, Mrs. Folashade Aiyeleka, noted that sex workers were gradually creeping back into the city, especially towards the end of December 2010 and January 2011.
In another development, 25 hawkers and beggars were also arrested by the task force Saturday morning, and would appear before the FCT environmental court for trial.
