Student remanded over teenager’s pregnancy

A 25-year-old student who allegedly seduced and forcefully had an affair with a 15-year-old house girl that resulted in pregnancy was yesterday ordered to be remanded in custody by an Abuja Chief Magistrate’s Court Pending when the case will come up for hearing.

Vincent Nwankpa, a part-time student of the University of Abuja, was charged with procuration of a minor girl and contravening Section 275 of the Penal Code.

Police prosecutor, Simon Ibrahim, informed the court that on

January 2, one Fred Kpakpanda of Mafemi Close, Utako, reported to the police that the accused seduced a house girl living in his house and forcefully had illicit sexual intercourse with her.

He said during police investigations, it was discovered that the girl was pregnant after the incident.

When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and request for bail, which was not granted on the ground that the case is not ordinarily bailable.

The accused pleaded with the court to discontinue the case as effort were being made with the family of the complainant to settle out of court but Chief Magistrate

Azubuike Okeagu discountenanced the plea, saying the case is not ordinarily bailable and also not compoundable.

He ordered the accused to be remanded in custody pending when the case will come up.
