Banker in court over assaulting Woman
A staff of Credit Link Micro Finance Bank, Abuja, Momodu Martins, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Abuja Magistrate Court for allegedly assaulting one Mrs. Okoro Chinedu Nnenna of the National Assembly complex, Abuja.
The banker who resides at No 40 Ladoke Akintola Boulvard, Garki II, Abuja, was arraigned on a one count charge of assault and for allegedly committing an offence punishable under Section 265 of the Penal Code.
Prosecutor Andrew Aichenede told the court that on October 8, Mrs. Okoro reported to the Police that on September 29, the accused assaulted her when she went to Garki Modern Market to buy some goods.
He said when the complainant was about to board a cab to her house, the accused accosted her and demanded to know why she had not paid the loan she took from the bank.
“The accused dragged her into the bank premises, beat her up and confiscated her goods,” the prosecutor said.
When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and requested for bail, which was not objected to by the prosecutor.
Magistrate Nkwadimi I. Buba granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate ordered that one of the sureties must be a Federal Civil Servant and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case to January 18 for hearing.
