ESTATE AGENT CHARGED WITH BREACH OF TRUST

A 35 year-old estate agent, Austin Chigbo, was on Monday arraigned before an Abuja Magistrate Court for alleged breach of trust and cheating, offences punishable under Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The accused of No 73, Aguiyi Ironsi Street, Maitama, Abuja was said to have committed the offence sometimes in January, 2010

The prosecutor, Adamu Abdullahi, told the court that on May 17, 2010, one Ann A. Kalu, reported to the police hate sometimes in January 2010, she gave N1, 980,000 to the accused secure accommodation for her but he dishonestly converted N100, 00 out of the money to his own use.

The Prosecutor stated further that during investigation, the accused signed an undertaken to pay the money, adding that the accused only paid N50, 000 and refused to pay the remaining balance till date.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge while his counsel, C Eneh, sought for his bail which was objected by the prosecutor.

Magistrate Mimi Katsina- Alu granted the accused that bail in the sum of N100, 000 with a surety in like sum.
