Labourer accused of stealing

A 23 year old labourer last Wednesday appeared before an Abuja Magistrate Court for alleged house breaking and theft, offences punishable under Sections 346 and 288 of the Penal Code.

Ibrahim Mohammed of Aku village, Base 5, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, was said to have broken into the house of one Okubula Omolara of Mike Akhigbe way, Utako, Abuja, and stole 406 pieces of granite tiles.

The accused was also alleged to have sold the tiles, valued at N1.6 million, and converted the money that accrued from the sales to his personal use.

The prosecutor, Simon Ibrahim, a sergeant, informed the court that on October 5, one Okebule Omolara reported to the police that the accused  broke into her  house and stole 23 cartoons of granite  tiles.

“The accused broke into her  house  and stole 23 cartoons of granite  tiles, valued at N1.6 Million, and sold them  to some  persons”, the  prosecutor  said.

The  accused  denied  the  charges and applied  for bail, a  request that  was  granted  by Magistrate Njideka duru in the  sum  of  N100,000 with two reliable  sureties  in like sum.
