Bizman sentenced for breach of trust
A 44 year old business man was last Thursday sentenced to one month imprisonment for cheating one Ucheson Okafor.
The accused, Eddy Onuche of Kado village, was arraigned on a two count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating, offences punishable under Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The prosecutor, Francis Tanko, had earlier told the court that on October 25, the complainant reported to the Police that sometime in 2008, he supplied some wines and spirits valued at 322, 700 to the accused.
The prosecutor stated further that the accused sold the items and only remitted N202,700 out of the money to the complainant, remaining a balance of N130,000 adding that he absconded until he was arrested.
The accused pleaded guilty when the charges were read to, him and begged for leniency, informing that he supplied the items to an organization that is yet to pay him completely.
The prosecutor than urged the court to try the accused summarily under Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Magistrate Fatima Malo sentenced the accused to two months imprisonment with an option of N10,000 fine.
The Magistrate also ordered the accused to pay N130,700 as compensation to the complaint.
