Man accused of assaulting ex-wife
A 32 year-old man was Wednesday arraigned before an Abuja Upper Area Court for
assaulting and intimidating his ex-wife, contrary to Sections
263, 264 and 397 of the Penal Code.
The accused, Chigbo Obukaitedi of suit 23 Dumec Plaza, Area II Abuja was alleged to have committed the crime on October 21,2010.
The police prosecutor, Mohammed Garba, told the court that on October 21,2010, one Uju Okpa of Karu Site, Abuja reported at the Garki police station that the accused invited her to his house for reconciliation of their collapsed marriage.
He further told the court that in the process of recalling the past experiences, the accused beat her up and threatened to kill her up and threatened to kill her.
When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty while his counsel, A.C. Uba, sought for his bail.
Judge Umar Kagarko granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with a reliable surety in like sum who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
The case was adjourned to December 8 for hearing.
