Man loses hand over woman’s love
An Abuja Magistrate Court sitting at Karu was yesterday informed about how a 30-year-old businessman allegedly cut off the left hand of his rival over a woman’s love.
Ibrahim Usman of Kurun-duma village, Abuja, was accused of criminal trespass and causing grievous, offences punishable under Sections 348 and 247 of the Penal Code.
Police Prosecutor, Philips Akogwu, informed the court that on January 12, one Mohammed Muazu reported to the police that the accused trespassed into his house and accused him of sleeping with a girl; he claimed to be his lover.
The prosecutor said the accused later picked up a cutlass and cut off the complainants left hand, adding that during police investigations, it was discovered that the accused actually committed the crime, while the complainant was rushed to Asokoro General Hospital, where he is still on admission.
When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and sought for bail, which was vehemently opposed by the prosecutor on the grounds that the complainant is still on admission in the hospital.
Magistrate Shuaibu Ahmed ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case to February 3 for hearing.
