Police arrest armed robber with N13m
POLICEMEN from Gwagwarwa Division in Kano State have arrested a member of an armed robbery gang that recently attacked a plastic company, Sabicom Limited, and took away N13.2 million Tuesday after shooting a security guard.
The tour armed robbers were said to have stormed the company at the time its proceeds for the day were about being transferred to a bank. After taking the money, the robbers shot one Stephen Waya, a guard at the company.
They were however chased by some people who quickly alerted the police. While attempting to escape in a Honda car they snatched from the company Manager, the robbers ran into oncoming vehicles, damaging some in the process.
Parading one of the robbers yesterday, the newly posted Police Commissioner to the state, Muhammad Tambari Yabo, said the suspect, Thankgod Onu, who hails from Nsukka in Enugu State, was arrested with N13.12milhon, one locally made pistol and some rounds of ammunition.
The commissioner praised the police team led by a Divisional Police Officer, ASF Dahiru Maiiya, which made the arrest while vowing to arrest the remaining suspects.
In a related development, the new commissioner has pledged to handle security situation in the state during the upcoming 2011 elections with fairness to all parties. He identified dishonesty as the major cause of crisis during election periods and said that this time around, it would be different.
The new commissioner urged people in the state to begin on a clean slate and promised to check the activities of thugs that are hired during elections, saying the command would not allow multiple or underage voting, ballot box snatching and other offences that could jeopardize the electoral process.
