Pregnant woman killed as cultists had conflict in Rivers state
A pregnant woman was killed weekend when suspected rival cultists attacked one another in Kula in Asari Torn Local Government Area of Rivers State. Several residents were also injured.
Police spokesman, Rita Innoma-Abbey, confirmed the clash but said she had
no details of casualties. The deceased, identified as Mrs. Ogechi Alaba, was said to have been caught in the cross fire when the cultists clashed with guns and other dangerous weapons at the weekend.
The victims mother, Mary Mgbu was also shot but survived. Some residents of the community have fled to neighbouring towns and villages for safety.
It was gathered that heavily armed youths started the attacks by first shooting into the air sporadically before fishing out their targets.
Traditional ruler of Kula, King Bourdillon Oko XXVIII, condemned the clash and said his people were now living in fear. He appealed for strong security presence in the community, as well as relief from the state government.
