Their search for daily bread brought Problems
THIRTY hawkers were yesterday sentenced to one month imprisonment by an Abuja mobile court for hawking in Abuja.
Those sentenced are, Benard Akwegbu, Shehu Sani, Abdulrahanian Jimoh, Badamasi Abubakar, Kakali Muhammed, Salisu Danfulani, Lawal Abdullahi, Christopher Okeh, Igwe Joseph, Friday Lawrence, Uche Nwenke and Ede Samuel.
Others are, Ali Nura, Friday Nwafor, Abel Nweke, Sani Ya’u, shaibu Audu, Misbahu Aminu, Musa Aliyu Nura Kashim, Aliyu Musa, Maman Rabiu, Yakubu Dauda, Tahiru Abdurahaman, Tola Kashim, Medinat Godwin, Muhammed Segeru and Solomon Emmanuel.
The prosecuting counsel, Barrister Eze O. Eze, had earlier told the court that the accused persons were arrested by the task force of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) while hawking at road junctions and unauthorized places within the FCT, adding that the offence is punishable under Section 35 (1) Act No 10 of the AEPB of 1997.
The accused persons pleaded guilty when the charge was read to them and begged for leniency, promising not to do it again.
The prosecutor urged the court to try the accused persons summarily under Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Magistrate Aminu Abdullahi sentenced each of the accused persons to one month imprisonment with an option of N3, 000 fines.
