Trader jailed for injuring security guard
A 37-year-old trader was last Thursday sentenced to one months imprisonment for injuring a security guard a Tuduwada Government Secondary School, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja.
The accused, Anthony Olabanjo of no fixed address was arraigned on a two count charge of trespass causing hurt, offences punishable under Sections 348 and 242 of Penal Code.
The prosecutor, Francis Tanko, earlier told the court that one Elias Shanimon reported to the Police that the accused hit him with a shovel and bit him on his right rib when he arrested him for trespassing into the school premises at night by jumping over the fence.
The accused pleaded guilty to the charges and begged for leniency.

The prosecutor urged the court to try the accused summarily under Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure code.
Magistrate Vera Tom Tukura sentenced the accused to one month imprisonment without fine option on the offence of trespass and three weeks weeks imprisonment with N500 fine option on the offence of casing hurt.
