Two in prison over missing DDC Machine
Two men, Abubakar Yunusa and Hussaini Ahmed, have been remanded in prison custody over the alleged diversion of an INEC Direct Data Capturing (DDC) machine in Bauchi.
Arraigning the suspects before Chief Magistrate’s Court 8 in Bauchi yesterday, police prosecutor, Corporal M. Garba, explained that they were charged with criminal conspiracy and breach of trust.
Corporal Garba said the INEC electoral officer attached to Bauchi Local Government Area, Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar, reported to the police that he entrusted the DDC machine to Abubakar Yunusa to assist him take it the registration unit and in the process, Abubakar conspired with Hussaini Ahmed and they diverted the machine, a laptop computer and its battery to an unknown destination from where they are not yet recovered.
The suspects told the court that they understood the charges and the prosecutor asked the court to grant them a short adjournment to enable the police complete their investigations.
Counsel to the accused, Barrister S.I. Aliyu, asked the court to grant them bail, adding that the offence was bail able and they were ready to provide credible sureties.
