Two jailed for housebreaking
An Abuja Magistrate Court on Wednesday sentenced a 35-year-old man and a 25-year-old applicant to one and a half years imprisonment for breaking into the house of one Dr. Stephen Osiobe and stealing his laptop computer.
Francis Omonigho and Muda Idris, both of Dagba village, Abuja, were arrested for committing the offences on October 15.
Police prosecutor, Yilkudi Dungji, a constable, had earlier told the court that on October 15, one Dr. Stephen Osiobe of Plot 113, Phase 1, Lugbe, Abuja, reported to the police that the two accused persons broke into his house and stole his laptop computer.
“The accused persons forcefully broke into the said house and stole a laptop, valued at N 110,000, offences punishable under Sections 79, 346 and 288 of the Penal Code,” the prosecutor said.
The prosecutor added that the accused persons were apprehended while trying to escape with the stolen laptop, adding that they confessed to the crimes during police interrogations.
When the charge were read to the accused persons, they pleaded guilty and begged for leniency
Chief Magistrate Hafsat Soso convicted and sentenced each of them to one year jail term or N2,000 fine option on the first count charge of house breaking and six months jail term or N1,000 fine option on the second charge of theft.
