Two Jailed for stealing iron rods
An Abuja Magistrate Court yesterday sentenced a 21 year old labourer and a26 year old man two weeks imprisonment for stealing iron rods from a construction site at Katampe, Abuja.
Mr. Goerge Ndiaka and Bello Ahmed Danfulani both of Ya’nbola, Banex Junction, Abuja, were apprehended while trying to escape with the stolen iron rods on October 25th.
Police prosecutor, Emmanuel Adikwu, a corporal, had earlier told the court that on October 25, one Mr. Jonathan Numga of Katampe 1, Gishiri Road, Abuja, reported to the police that the accused persons stole some iron rods from a construction site.
“The accused persons jointly trespassed into the site and stole some iron rods, offences punishable under Sections 79 and 342 of the Penal Code,” the prosecutor said.
According to the prosecutor, during police investigations, the stolen iron rods were recovered from the possession of the accused persons.
When the charges were read to the accused persons, they pleaded guilty and begged for leniency
Following their guilty pleas, the prosecutor asked the court to try them summarily under Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Holding brief for Magistrate Khadijat Mustapha, Magistrate Hauwa Aliyu sentenced each of the accused persons to two weeks imprisonment or to pay N2,000 as fine.
