NYSC PROGRAMME, WHO BENEFITS MORE?

The NYSC programme organized by the Nigeria government over the years has been achieving most of its objectives. But who benefits more between the Youth Coppers and the stakeholders involved. A good look at the amount of money said to be spent on each Copper each year (on and off camp) is enough to set each graduate up as a self employed individual which will go a long way in reducing the level of unemployment in the country. If all graduates are asked to voluntarily go to a particular local government in any State to settle down and set up a business, giving them the total sum of their allawee at the onset, their we be an amazing and voluntary turn-in of graduates and low level of unemployment compared to the initial methods which is done against their will and after which 98% run back to their different homes (except those who luckily find themselves in town where there is a promise of a good job). But the question that remained unanswered is “who benefit more?”. Is the Copper who is being posted to an area against is own wishes or the stake holders and policy makers involved that uses the NYSC programme as an avenue to have their own share of the national cake?
