They had already given out Four Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira for Properties they probably would never own.
No, they are no donating the money for any charitable cause or launching. They seem to be victims of advance fee fraud commonly known as 419!
On Wednesday, August 18, 2010, I received a copy of a notice on page 72 of Nigeria’s Daily Punch of a Public Notice Credited to the GOC, 1 Division Nigeria Army, Kaduna. To summarize it, 55 properties belonging to the Nigerian Army were listed, stating that they were not for sale and that anyone engaged in buying such were doing so ‘at their own risk’.
My office is close to two of such properties, and that’s where this gets interesting.
A man purported to be from the Nigerian Army came and actually told the tenants that their flats were up for sale for about N4.5 Million, but could start with a down payment of 10%. The ‘Agent’ further ‘informed’ the tenants that they could sell the boys’ quarters after the deal was sealed! What an extremely good deal. The tenants could actually make profit buying their own houses!
Before it gets boring, some hardworking Nigerians parted with Four Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira to a man who, in my guess will vaporize, which is a big shame. They were issued with ‘papers’ and ‘reciepts’, and were really taken in by what now seems to be a big farce and fiasco.
I have just one question: Who is to blame?
