ANSWERS ON LOVE, FRIENDSHIP AND LIKE

LOVE
The concept of true love is what we search for all our lives. Yet love is one of the most misunderstood concepts of all. What people really want more than anything else is to be loved unconditionally; to be accepted for who they are, and still be loved. Sometimes we will do some crazy things, in the name of love. Love is actually the choice one makes to put someone’s wishes, desires and needs above our own. Many people confuse the word love with the meaning of the word want, desire, infatuation or lust.

Love involves three key elements:
Emotions –how we feel about each other
Ethics –how good or bad we are for each other
Joys –how much we satisfy or dissatisfy each other

The Dictionary defines love as:
1. A profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person.
2. A feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend.
3. A sexual passion or desire.
4. A person toward whom love is felt; beloved person; sweetheart

But According to the Bible: 1 Corithians
Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things; believes all things; hopes all things; endures all things.

Love, whether used of God or man, is an earnest and anxious desire for and an active and beneficent interest in the well-being of the one loved. Love is both “to desire” and “to please”.

FRIENDSHIP
Different people have different definitions of friendship. For some, it is the trust in an individual that he / she won’t hurt you. For others, it is unconditional love. There are some who feel that friendship is companionship. People form definitions based on the kind of experiences they have had. There are famous stories about friends in mythologies of different religions all over the world. They say a person who has found a faithful friend has found a priceless treasure.

Aristotle described a friend as “A single soul, dwelling in two bodies”

Other sources have defined friendship as follows:

“Friendship is the cooperative and supportive relationship between people, or animals. In this sense, the term connotes a relationship which involves mutual knowledge, esteem, affection, and respect along with a degree of rendering service to friends in times of need or crisis”

“True friendship is perhaps the only relation that survives the trials and tribulations of time and remains unconditional. A unique blend of affection, loyalty, love, respect, trust and loads of fun is perhaps what describes the true meaning of friendship. Similar interests, mutual respect and strong attachment with each other are what friends share between each other. These are just the general traits of a friendship. To experience what is friendship, one must have true friends, who are indeed rare treasure”.

“Friendship is a feeling of comfort and emotional safety with a person. It is when you do not have to weigh your thoughts and measure words, before keeping it forth before your friend. It is when someone knows you better than yourself and assures to be on your side in every emotional crisis. It is when you can sleep fighting and get up another morning with a better understanding. Friendship is much beyond roaming together and sharing good moments, it is when someone comes to rescue you from the worst phase of life”.

One of the missions of GREAT HEARTED GROUP as a nonprofit organization is to inspire people to love unconditionally. Our vision is to assist people by building a practical foundation and understanding of unconditional love within individuals and society as a whole.

It may be easy to look around our world today and see the appearance of chaos, difficulty and strife. Yet, when we come from an open heart, we can also see our opportunity to love all things into balance, joy, harmony and peace. This planet does not need more visions of desperation, fear, doubt and hate – it requires an abundance of love, especially unconditional love, to heal and restore the beauty contained in every moment. This becomes the easier path once we take the first step and begin to share our love.

When we bring unconditional love back into our personal, professional, community and family lives, we begin the journey of restoring wholeness and happiness to the human society. Of course it takes determined effort on our own part to achieve this. However, this effort to love is rewarded by God with a new perspective on everything and all life benefits as a result.
