Driver Accused of Causing Pedestrian’s Death

THE police yesterday arraigned a driver before an Abuja Magistrate Court for allegedly driving dangerously and causing the death of a pedestrian.

Dauda David, a painter, was reported to have driven a Honda Accord car with registration number XA910RBC recklessly and without having any regard for other road users along Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway, Abuja.

In the process, the accused knocked down a pedestrian, Joseph Ogunjide of Karmo village, Abuja, inflicting some serious bodily injuries on him.

“The pedestrian was rushed to the Wuse General Hospital for treatment, but he was confirmed dead on arrival, an offence punishable under section 27 (1)28 of the Road Traffic Act,” the prosecutor said.

When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and requested for bail.

Chief Magistrate Hafsat Soso granted rd for the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with a surety in like sum who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and swear to an affidavit to produce the accused in court on the adjourned date.

The case was adjourned to November 11 for hearing.
