Heads rolled in a rapid successive order on Tuesday,August 24 as trigger
happy armed robbers unleashed havoc on Aba the
commercial nerve center of Abia State, leaving 5 corps dead and many civilians brutally wounded.
Information making round the Enyimba city was that the dare-devil armed men struck at the Ekeakpara area of Osisioma LGA where they succesfully robbed five banks and killed the five cops in a fierce shoot out.
After the operation that lasted for many hours, many civilians, especially petty traders who were scampering for safety were left wounded and some were believed to have died latter as hospitals could not accommodate all the victims.
Not only that the robbers succeded in carting away millions of naira from the banks, they were believed to have made with the police rifles.
In another development, motorists in Aba, on Monday, August 16, engaged in peaceful demonstration against police extortion in the city.
The comercial motorists alleged that the police abandoned what they were sent to do in Aba and engaged in extortion of motorists. According to them, after settling the police in numerous check points within the city, the motorists will not have any thing left to give to owners of the vehicles at the end of the day.
However, the Police are crying that many of their members have lost their lives in the process of fighting against kidnappers and armed robbers in Aba and other parts of eastern Nigerian.
It could be remebered that the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ogbonnaya Onovo some time pleaded with people in the South East to save his job by keeping off from kidnapping and other nefarious activities.
