The alarming increase in the incidence of accidents on Nigeria roads is a source of worry to many people within and outside the country.Road accidents are daily occurrences across the Country and many Nigerians have lost their lives through those accidents while many others have been maimed.According to the united Nations report about fifteen thousand Nigerians die yearly through accidents.
WHAT COULD BE THE CAUSES?
Definitely ,there are number of factors responsible.
1.Reckless driving among drivers. These as a result of negligence to traffic rules which is totally unenforceable,it seem there’s is no traffic law in Nigeria
2.Many Drivers driveĀ under the influence of alcohol, which result to over-speed and do not obey traffic rules, they over take other vehicles at dangerous bend and drive with half of their eyes close.
3.Teenage Drivers,is another factors responsible.many parents release their cars for their children who are often too young to drive.they do this to show class or status.
moreover in Nigeria is not an offense to drive without License.many drive without a driver Licenses and some that have don’t go through rigorous exercise of learning how to drive before the License is issued to them.
4.Lack of pedestrian bridge on the major high ways, example along Abeokuta Express way, mangoro bus stop, Cement bus stop.etc, this is a total failure on the side of the government.if statistic should be taken of lives that is lost trying to cross the High-way is very alarming.
WHAT IS THE WAY OUT?
Traffic rules and law must be enforce.Enforcement agency should be up doing and avoid taking bribe from traffic violators but make sure erring drivers are dealt with and prosecuted,so as to serve as deterrent to others.
The government should build pedestrian bridges where necessary especially on the High ways.
Beer parlor and alcoholic joint should be totally disallowed in the motor garages.
It’s the wish of meaning all Nigerians and International community that Nigeria Road is safe for everybody.
